Breaking Into the World Wide Web
Part IV: Professional Resource Choices |
|
| Can't
Afford a Pro? Think again. If your budget for putting up a
website is a little limited, there are ways to make it work. A
number of web-designing professionals work at "lower than
industry standard" rates simply because it is an excellent way
to attract business while building one's portfolio. If you can catch
a talented up-and-comer, you may be able to get far more website
savvy & design than you are actually paying for. Another
alternative is to use one of the do-it-yourself packages as a start,
and then have a professional tighten it up for you. Lay out the
basic pages, do as much of the work yourself as you can manage,
including written outlines (see any good "site map" to
understand what these should look like), even hand-drawn sketches
and ideas. The more groundwork you can put into place, the easier
your designer will have it, and (hopefully) the less they will
charge.
