Part V: Choosing a Web Designer

Resources

There is no right answer. There is only the answer that suits your business best. Website Designers come in so many different flavors that finding the “Right One” is an overwhelming task.

Define Your Site. First things first, what is your site all about? Ask yourself these questions, and let the answers set you on the path to finding the right designer:

  • What does my site need to do? Does it need to physically attract business to your doorstep, or is it a full-service, e-commerce site? Do you need to educate, inform, or sell? Determine the function of your site, as a marketing and sales tool, and write it down.
  • What is my competition doing? Look at the sites of your competitors. How elaborate are they, and do they seem appealing and useful? How would you make them better if they were your own?
  • What is my target audience? What kind of look and feel is going to influence their thinking (and make them reach for their wallets)?
