Part V: Choosing a Web Designer

Resources

  • What is the desired response to your site?
  • What kind of information and services do your potential users need or want?

Research. This is truly a key element. Surf the ‘Net at will and look for sites that appeal to your needs in terms of both appearance and function. Many professionally designed sites will have a designer signature somewhere in the site (look for “site credit” pages). Follow those threads and look for the designer’s home page and portfolio. Again, have a long, thorough look at your competition’s site, and define the elements that work well, as well as those you’d like to avoid on your own pages.
